Rotate PDF Pages — Fix Sideways Scans Free
Rotate single pages or the whole PDF by 90, 180, or 270 degrees and save the change permanently.
Turn upside-down or sideways scans the right way up. Rotate just the pages that need it or every page at once, then save the result to a new file.
How to rotate PDF pages (3 steps)
- Open your PDF. Every page is shown as a thumbnail.
- Press the ↻ button on a thumbnail to turn that page 90° clockwise (three presses turn it 90° anticlockwise), or rotate all pages at once.
- Save and download the rotated file.
Rotation without quality loss
Each page in a PDF carries a setting that says how many degrees it should be displayed at. This tool changes only that setting — it doesn't re-render the page as a picture and rotate the picture. So text stays selectable and searchable, images stay as sharp as before, the file size barely changes, and the job takes seconds even for files with hundreds of pages. Some sites rotate by converting pages into images, which makes the file larger and loses the text.
- Page on its side, top of the page on the left — rotate 90° clockwise.
- Page on its side, top of the page on the right — rotate 90° anticlockwise.
- Page upside down — rotate 180°.
- Landscape and portrait scans mixed together — rotate only the sideways pages, one at a time from the thumbnails.
Why scanned or photographed pages end up rotated
- Paper fed into the scanner the wrong way — the scanner doesn't know which edge is the top, so it captures the page as it was fed.
- Landscape documents scanned in portrait mode — wide tables and forms are often fed sideways to fit, but the file comes out portrait.
- Phone photos with orientation data the converter ignores — phones record which way the photo was taken, but some PDF converters don't read that information.
- Files combined from different sources — some parts were exported in landscape on purpose.
Common uses
- Fixing an ID copy or official document scanned upside down — before sending it to a bank or an office, so the reader doesn't have to tilt their head.
- Landscape tables or financial statements in a portrait document — rotate just those pages so the document reads smoothly on screen.
- Office copier scans — dozens of pages scanned in one go, with a few fed the wrong way. Rotate only those.
- Receipts photographed in landscape — turn them upright before adding them to an expense claim.
Good to know before you rotate
- Rotation is in 90° steps — a page that is slightly skewed from a crooked scan can't be fixed with this tool. Rescan it, or use a scanning app that straightens pages.
- Some systems ignore the rotation setting — every ordinary PDF viewer displays it correctly, but some older systems that convert PDFs to images may not read it. If you're sending to a system like that, run Flatten PDF after rotating so the pages are physically rotated for good.
- Your original is untouched — you get a new file and the original stays intact.
FAQ
Will the pages still be rotated when opened on another device?
Yes. The rotation is saved into the file permanently — it isn't just a change of view.
Can I rotate only pages 2 and 5?
Yes. You can rotate each page individually.
What about a scan with landscape and portrait pages mixed together?
Rotate only the pages facing the wrong way. The other pages are not affected.
Does rotating reduce quality?
No. Only the page orientation setting is changed; nothing is re-rendered. Text stays selectable, images stay sharp, and the file size barely changes.
Can it fix a page that is slightly tilted from scanning?
No. This tool rotates in 90° steps. For a slight tilt, rescan the page straight, or use the camera scanning tool and keep the phone parallel to the paper.
I uploaded the file to a system and the page is still sideways. Why?
That system may not read the page orientation setting. Rotate the page, then flatten the PDF as an extra step. The page is then physically rotated and displays correctly everywhere.
